Sophos Firewall OS relies on a Web 2.0-based, user-friendly graphical interface called the "Web Admin Interface" to configure and manage the appliance.
You can access the browser-based management of the appliance via HTTPS through any of the interfaces. When XG Firewall is first connected and powered on, it has the following access configuration for the HTTPS service to access the Web Admin Interface.

The administrator can change the default ports for the HTTPS service under Administration > AdminSettings.
Web Admin Interface - Language
The Web Admin Interface supports multiple languages, but English is set as the default. In addition to English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Hindi, French, German, Italian, Korean and Portuguese (Brazilian) are also supported. The administrator can set the desired language when logging in.

The administrator can also store a description for various policies, services and various custom categories in any of the supported languages.
All configurations made in the web admin interface take effect immediately. To assist you in configuring the appliance, the appliance provides detailed and context-sensitive online help.
Login procedure
At logon, the XG Firewall authenticates the user and creates a session that ends when the user logs off.
To get to the login window, open the browser and enter the internal IP address of XG Firewall in the address bar. A dialogue box will then appear prompting you to enter the user name and password.
- User name
- Enter the user login name.
If you are logging in for the first time after installation, use the default user name.
- Password
- Set a password for the user account.
The dots in the "Password" field serve as placeholders.

- Click to log in to the web admin interface.
The control centre appears as soon as you have logged in to the web admin interface. The Control Centre gives you a quick overview of all important parameters of your appliance.
Logout procedure
Log out when you are finished to prevent unauthorised users from accessing Sophos. This terminates the session and access to the appliance.
To log out of the appliance, go to Admin on the top right and click Logout.
Supported Browsers
You can connect to the appliance's web admin interface from any administration computer using one of the following web browsers using a secure HTTPS connection:
Latest version of Mozilla Firefox (recommended), Chrome or Apple Safari (for MAC OS X), Microsoft Edge 25 or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11 and up with JavaScript enabled.
The minimum screen resolution of the management computer is 1280 × 768.
Menus
The navigation bar on the far left gives you access to various configuration pages. The menus consist of several submenus and tabs. When you click on a menu item in the navigation bar, the associated management functions are displayed as tabs. The tab page is displayed when you click on the tab.
You can call up the help page by pressing the F1 key.
Pages
- Support: opens the customer login page to create a ticket for technical support. Your case will be quickly and easily added directly to the technical support queue.
- About the product: Opens the information page for registering the appliance.
- Wizard: Opens the network configuration wizard.
- Console: Opens the Command Line Interface (CLI) console.
- Restart XG Firewall: Restarts the appliance.
- Shut down XG Firewall: Shuts down the appliance.
- Lock: Locks the web admin interface. The web admin interface is automatically locked if the appliance is in the inactive state for more than three minutes. To unlock the admin interface, you must log in again. The lock function is disabled by default. Activate the admin session lock under Administration > AdminSettings.
- Logout: Logs out of the web admin interface.
Clicking on the Help hyperlink at the top right of any page opens a context-sensitive help page.
List of Navigation Elements
On the Web Admin Interface page, information is listed, with many lists appearing on multiple pages. At the bottom of the list is the Navigation Controls page, which provides an overview of the navigation buttons that can be used to conveniently browse lists with many entries. The current page and the total number of pages are displayed.
