Fortinet - FortiGate 100F now available
Manufacturer Fortinet has once again published a price list. Now, with the FortiGate 100F / FortiGate 101F, the eagerly awaited new queen of the mid-range firewalls is finally available. Furthermore, with the FortiAP U431F / FortiAP U433F and the FortiSwitch 148E / FortiSwitch 148-POE, the range of access points and switches has been expanded with interesting new devices.
What can the FortiGate 100F do?
You have already received a detailed overview of the functional scope of the new FortiGate 100F firewall in our blog article "Fortinet kündigt FortiGate 100F an". In short, the new FortiGate offers 2x 10GE SPF+ fibre ports, which is a very attractive feature in this price segment, as well as a dedicated SD-WAN chip. This accelerates the overall throughput of the firewall up to an incredible 20Gbps and the VPN throughput up to 11.5 Gbps. This clearly sets the device apart from its predecessor model FortiGate 100E, which only achieved up to 7.4Gbps and 4Gbps respectively. The FortiOS version 6.2 preinstalled ex works rounds off the package. Like its predecessor, the FortiGate 101F also includes a 240GB internal hard drive.
What can the new FortiAPs do?
The FortiAP U431F and its outdoor counterpart FortiAP U433F primarily impress with 802.11ax support and thus throughput rates of up to 4.8Gbps per 5GHz radio. The APs have 4x4 MIMO and two 5GHz radio antennas. In addition, there is a redundant POE+ connection and support for the latest WLAN security standard WPA3. You can find out how 802.11ax and WPA3 differ from the previous standards in our blog entries in the "What is actually..." series: "Was ist eigentlich… 802.11ax?" and "Was ist eigentlich… WPA3?" Furthermore, the access point is part of the FortiAP U series and thus supports the patented Fortinet 1-channel technology with FortiWLC.
What can the new FortiSwitch do?
Last but not least, Fortinet introduces the FortiSwitch 148E / FortiSwitch 148E-POE, the big brother of the FortiSwitch 124E / FortiSwitch 124E-POE, which has already been available since 2017. This has almost twice the throughput rate and maximum number of packets per second with up to 104 Gbps or 155 Mpps compared to its smaller brother. Furthermore, the switch has 48x GE RJ45 Ethernet ports and with 64MB twice as much FLASH memory as the FortiSwitch 124E.
