Digitalpakt Schule - upgrading WLAN and IT security at schools

5.5 billion euros - that is the amount of funding that the Federal Republic of Germany is making available within the framework of the "Digitalpakt Schule" (Digital Pact for Schools) for the expansion of the IT infrastructures of public and public schools in Germany. The pact was invented three years ago, and now the start-up funding is finally available.

The background is the increasing digitalisation of the working world. Tomorrow's students simply cannot learn key digital skills for the modern labour market at today's schools with yesterday's IT infrastructures.

The cornerstone for this is the provision of a comprehensive, highly available and reliable Wi-Fi network for all pupils as well as the expansion of innovative network and IT security technologies.

Your path to a digital school is:

1. media development plan

The first step towards funding within the framework of the Digital Pact for Schools is the creation of a concrete media development plan. Because no funding without a concept. Each school must be able to explain to the responsible school authority exactly what the funding is to be spent on and with what goal in mind.

In particular, the following questions should be clarified:

• What technology is already available?
• What is the goal?
• How can this goal be realised?

We would be happy to advise you on the topics of WLAN and IT security. These form the foundation of a modern and future-proof IT infrastructure and are essential for the use of further technologies such as interactive whiteboards or tablet computers.

2. apply for funding

The funding from the Digital Pact for Schools is applied for at the state level. Which office accepts the applications is determined individually by each Land. Also, the funds are not applied for by the schools themselves, but by the school authorities. In the case of public schools, this is usually a municipality or district, and in the case of public schools, an association or a religious community.

Funding can be applied for for the following investments:

• Establishment/improvement of digital networking in school buildings and on school grounds
• School WLAN
• Display and interaction devices (e.g. interactive whiteboards)
• Digital work equipment, especially for technical, scientific or vocational education.

Total costs for laptops, notebooks or tablets are eligible for a limited amount of funding; ongoing support/maintenance and administrative costs as well as smartphones are not eligible for funding.
